We Need to Talk About Kevin

We Need to Talk About Kevin is a 2011 family drama physiological- thriller directed by Lynne Ramsay staring Tilda Swinton as the Mother Eva of her child Kevin and her relationship with him as well as her coping with what he has done and is based on the 2003 novel of the same name by Lionel Shriver . Narrative wise the film is not chronological in its story telling. It jumps between time periods of Eva in different moments in her life. We go between one time line of her from when Kevin was a baby and him growing up gradually but this is also interspersed with Eva's current state of mind and life after the main events in the film. This is a very clever technique as it makes us as the audience try and pin the pieces together and work out what has and what is happening in the story. Scene Analysis - Sing Street

In this scene from the 2016 film S ing Street we see our main character Conor trying to talk a girl called Raphina and get her into his band, which has just made up so he can talk to her and get her number. We see that Raphina has higher status than Conor as she is standing over him and the camera looks down from her. As he has a cigarette and we are told that her boyfriend is apparently a drug dealer we also get the sense that she may be a bit rebellious. The shots in the scene are very simple with a wide shot showing the both of them on the steps and also showing other pupils going into the school. Then there are medium shots where we see bot the characters and these are over the shoulder but also tilting up to look as Raphina and down to look at Conor showing the difference in status. The dialogue in the scene is very naturalistic and the way that it is delivered is very genuine. This also helps create humour in the scene as we see that Conor is a little bit awkward es...

Weekly film- Lady Bird

Lady Bird is a 2017 coming of age comedy drama starring Sariose Ronan and written and directed by Greta Gerwig. The film tells the story of a 17 year old girl called Christine but has renamed her self Lady Bird and is about her experiences at high school and growing up. The film has not got a major plot but more just scenes about her life and her relationship with her friends and family but especially her mother. The film also stars Laurie Metcalf as her mother and Timothee Chalamet,who was nomiated for an Oscar this year for his performance in Call me by your name. The films structure is chronological and follows a year in Lady Birds life which is 2002-2003 and her transition from high school to college. The film is also shot very interestingly looking as though it has been shot on photographic film and having an overall nostalgic feel to it and makes Sacramento look like a very beautiful place.
